Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet drug, which mainly used to prevent
the strokes and the heart attacks in the persons who are at high
risk. It has a greater similarity with the ticlopidine (Ticlid) in
chemical structure and in the way it works. The risk of heart
attacks and strokes are usually caused because of the blood clots.
So heart attack or stroke can prevent by avoiding the blood clot.
Platelet is a part of the blood, which helps the blood to clot.
Plavix helps to increase the growth of platelets in the blood with
out reducing the amount of white and red blood cells.Doctor
prescribes Clopidogrel after conducting several tests. It helps the
doctor to know that whether this medicine cause any other problems
or side effects to the patient and also help him to prescribe the
dosage.
If the patient is affected by bleeding disorder or hemophilia, liver
diseases, recent surgery or trauma, stomach or intestinal ulcers, an
unusual or allergic reaction to clopidogrel, other medicines, foods,
dyes, or preservatives, pregnant or trying to get pregnant,
breast-feeding not allowed to taking the Clopidogrel or Plavix. If
the patient suffers from these problems you definitely need to
inform the doctor before prescribing the Clopidogrel. The age below
15 is also restricted to using the Plavix. The age above 60 can use
Plavix with some limitations and conditions. The way of treatment
and dosage vary according to the age, life style and health of
patient.
